Gumball Rally 2023

Hello, and welcome to The Talking Disney Podcast Blog!  If you’re reading this post on February 4, 2023, there’s a good chance you might have been directed here by a QR code while one of us is running through Disneyland, trying to get enough points to win the race known as The Gumball Rally!

What is the Gumball Rally, you might wonder?  It’s an awesome race that is held each year by micechat.com.  You can learn more about it by clicking here to go to their website where they do a great job of telling you what this race is all about!  You can also go here to see their Facebook page where there is more information about the race.

Basically, there are hundreds of us in Disneyland today, all competing to ride the most rides, answer the most questions correctly, and whatever else they might have us doing today!  Sometimes we’re taking pictures and posting to social media, and other times our phones are completely OFF LIMITS.  One thing you learn quickly about this Rally is they like to change things up each year and it’s always just a little bit different than before.

Today, February 4, 2023 will by my (James) third time running this race with my friend, Yin Garcia.  We did this for the first time in 2020, and again in 2022 where we took 9th place!  If you see us today, wish us good luck!  Each year, we come up with a team name and some type of outfit to show off our team spirit.  This year, we are The EnginEARS!

Last year, all three of us from The Talking Disney Podcast (Jason, Cody, and James) ran the race and you can go listen to Episode 82 to hear all of our thoughts and experiences.  You can also listen to Episode 34 for the first time I experienced this race.  In the next couple of weeks, we’ll be recording a new episode where we’ll have the chance to talk about everything going on today!  I can tell you, even though I’ve been to Disneyland hundreds of times, the days we’re competing during the Gumball Rally are some of my absolute favorite days!

Hope this might answer some of the questions you might have seeing all these different people around the Park today, wearing their lanyards with their team numbers on them, and watching very closely as they attempt to ride EVERYTHING.  We only have until 6:30 this evening to finish and we can’t have any help from anyone outside our own teams.  Thanks for reading - hope to see you in this race next year!! Oh yeah - while you're here - follow us here on TikTok to see some of the videos we'll be posting in the next few days from this event.  Thanks!

James Dodge
